BATON ROUGE RECREATION (BREC) BioBlitz

SATURDAY, APRIL 15, 2017

We will join BREC in the Frenchtown Conservation Area, 495 acres, on a joint hike (walk) for fungi and plants on Saturday.  We will meet at the parking area on Frenchtown Road at 10:45AM. Bring collecting gear, rain gear if rainy, bug spray, water and a sack lunch.

We will walk on a trail from the parking lot (Forest Edge Trail) until 12:00, name and discuss the fungi found in the parking area where tables will be set up, take a lunch break and continue to foray until 2 PM, if we choose. If you want a chair, please bring your own.

Directions:The park is located near the south end of Frenchtown Rd (see map). After you pass under the railroad tracks, BREC’s parking lot is located immediately on the left. NO PARKING at the dead end of the road, please only use BREC's parking lot (see park map). This park does have access to the Amite River and fishing is allowed following Louisiana State Regulations; however, due to the fast current and hidden hazards, swimming in the Amite River is not advised.

From IH 12, take exit 7, go  north on O’Neal Ln, cross LA-426, cross US -190(Florida Blvd), becomes Central Throughway, cross Comite River, turn right on Frenchtown Rd, keep straight on FT Rd, after crossing under railroad bridge, see parking lot on left.
